ESTERO — Hertz, with three years of leadership and financial challenges, added one more problem to its portfolio: an appearance on a nationwide list entitled “The Worst Companies to Work For.”

Estero-based Hertz ranked No. 8 on the list, compiled by financial website 24/7 Wall Street using data from employee review site Glassdoor. To be considered for the report, a company had to have a minimum of 1,000 reviews on Glassdoor. (Glassdoor didn't commission the report, according to 247wallst.com.)

Hertz, with 36,000 worldwide employees, was one of several national brands to post an overall rating of 2.5 out of 5, joining Sears, Dish, Forever 21 and Rent-A-Center. The No. 1 company on the worst list was call center firm Alorica, with a 2.3 rating, the report shows. Alorica has several offices on the west coast of Florida, and recently announced it's hiring up to 200 people for its Sarasota branch. The average Glassdoor rating for all companies is 3.3, according to 24/7 Wall Street.

“Two out of every three employees say they would not recommend a job at (Hertz) to a friend,” according to the 24/7 Wall Street report. “Common complaints submitted by employees include poor, inconsistent hours or being required to work late. Employees also commonly cite low pay and inattentive, unavailable management as issues.”

Other employee comments on Hertz, not mentioned in the report, are positive reviews of the company's model and leadership.
