The nomination process for one of the Business Observer's most read issues — the annual 40 Under 40 issue — is underway.
As in past years, dating back to 2003, our goal with this issue is to find, and then honor and celebrate, the brightest minds, boldest executives and best entrepreneurs in the region.
The deadline is Wednesday, July 16.
The questions we hear the most for 40 Under 40 is simple: what do we look for in the 40 winners we chose from hundreds of nominations. The answer is somewhat nuanced.
There’s the obvious: success in the nominee’s field or industry. Not just in a title of leadership, but we look at the nominee’s actions and, importantly, results. Another key component is considering the nominee in the greater community — is this the type of person where, if you are new to town, he or she would be at the top of the list of people to meet?
Another key — and something we think separates this issue from the many other publications that do something similar — is the risk factor. Did this nominee start their own business, or law firm or nonprofit? DId they risk their time and treasure on their own idea, maybe when others thought it might not be the best move? Those risk-takers are what gets the nominee closer to the yes pile.
Finally, there are the basics: The issue is open to entrepreneurs, executives and professionals in any field or industry, including nonprofits, from Polk through Collier counties. The nominee must be under 40 up until Oct. 9, 2025. Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. Past winners of the Business Observer’s 40 Under 40 issue are not eligible.

You will be asked to include the nominee’s city, age, company and title along with your contact information and their contact information. Please be able to describe in 300 words or fewer why this nominee is a business community superstar. You also must be willing to participate in a photo and video shoot for the issue, and be willing to talk about your mentors in life and your career.
