Moving company U-Haul recently released a report showing the different migration patterns by generation. Based on customer moves from July 2025 through June 2026, the company found that Millennials and Generation X were moving to Florida and Texas more than anywhere else.

Among Gen Xers who were moving using U-Haul, the top destination was Fort Myers, the report says. Two other areas in the region were among the places where most Gen Xers were moving: North Port-Sarasota was No. 3 for this age group, while Tampa was No. 8.

Gen Xers are not alone in flocking to the Gulf Coast. Among Millennials moving using U-Haul, the report shows that Sarasota-North Port-Bradenton was No. 5 on the list of destinations, while Lakeland-Winter Haven came in at No. 6.

“Millennials account for the most one-way U-Haul transactions, followed closely by Gen X,” the report says. “Those generations total more than 60% of rentals.”

U-Haul has more than 25,000 rental locations across all 50 states and Canada.
