Employers across the region are hiring, with multiple job fairs planned in the first quarter as organizations seek to fill positions in the new year.

This week, a high-end resort on Longboat Key and Sarasota County government are hosting job fairs. Next month, large-scale events hosted by Florida Job Link are planned for Tampa, Fort Myers and Sarasota.

“Employers are confidently hiring again, with an emphasis on medical, nursing and filling first-responder jobs,” says Stephanie Sims, CEO of Florida JobLink, which has been producing career fairs since 1998. "In every city we serve, we [also] try to be a partner to the local governmental agencies, law enforcement agencies and schools.”

Some of organizations hiring and hosting job fairs include:

St. Regis Longboat Key Resort

Bartender, safety and security officer, administrative specialist and other positions are among the dozens of jobs available at St. Regis, a luxury resort on Longboat Key that officially opened for guests in October.

"As demand increases due to the upcoming high season and the strong local demand for the restaurants and spa, there is a need to increase the number of hosts," a spokesperson for the St. Regis says in a statement.

Both seasonal and full-time jobs are available. Job-seekers are asked to apply online before the Jan. 23 job fair and come ready to interview.

“The diverse array of roles available includes positions in administrative and operational functions, spread across the property's various experiences,” St. Regis officials say in a statement. “Opportunities include front office and butler services, food and beverage, banquets and events, security, engineering, housekeeping, culinary and stewarding, spa, and recreation. With roles tailored to different passions and skill sets, there's a role suited for every candidate.”

The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort currently has 375 employees, with plans to hire 100 more, a spokesperson says.

The job fair is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the St. Regis Longboat Key Resort’s Astor Ballroom, 1601 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key.

Sarasota County

Sarasota County is also hosting a job fair this week, on Friday, Jan. 24. The county government employs more than 2,300 people, according to a spokesperson.

The Sarasota County government jobs website indicates more than 100 positions are ready to be filled. Opportunities are available in several departments: Public Utilities; Public Works; Breeze Transit; General Services; Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources; Fire/Emergency Services; Planning and Development Services; and Special Programs.

In the first quarter, Sarasota County government is hosting three job fairs, one each month, which is the standard cadence for the county, according to a spokesperson.

The job fairs are being held around the county from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Friday, Jan. 24, at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd., Venice
  • Thursday, Feb. 6, at Shannon Staub Library, 4675 Career Lane, North Port
  • Tuesday, March 25, at Fruitville Library, 100 Apex Road, Sarasota

Candidates should bring their resumes to the event and be prepared to meet with hiring managers and county staff, possibly leaving with a job offer.

Florida JobLink fairs

Florida JobLink typically produces about five or six job fairs each month around the state. In February, three are planned in the Gulf Coast region — in Tampa, Sarasota and Fort Myers.

“We're especially excited about our annual ‘Tampa Bay Career Bowl’ event, which happens annually at Raymond James Stadium,” Sims says. “Employers from all over the state are coming to recruit at this fun, football-themed Super Hiring Event.”

More than 500 jobs are available, in fields such as education, food service, medical, construction, warehouse, sales, customer service, labor, law enforcement, administrative, government, insurance, banking, hospitality and automotive, among others.

The Tampa Bay Career Bowl will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Raymond James Stadium, 4201 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa.

“Historically, some employers from the Sarasota/Bradenton area participate in this Tampa Bay event,” Sims adds.

For those further south, Florida JobLink is holding a Southwest Florida job fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Drury Inn Conference Center, 9950 University Plaza Drive, Fort Myers. Some candidates may be hired on the spot.

"With regard to the climate of hiring in our region, we are seeing Fort Myers rebounding nicely after the storms devastated them repeatedly over the past year," Sims says.

Participating employers at the Fort Myers job fair include Lee Health, Lee County Schools, Collier County Public Schools, Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, city of Sanibel, McKenney Home Care, Radiology Regional, Hope Healthcare/Chapters Health, Bath Fitter and ADT, among others.

Florida JobLink is also hosting a job fair in the Sarasota-Bradenton area where some candidates will also be able to get hired on the spot, organizers say. The Sarasota job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Hampton Inn & Suites, 975 University Parkway, Sarasota.

Participating employers include Sarasota County government, Sarasota County Schools, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota County Sheriff, city of Bradenton, Manatee County Government, Massey Services, ADT, McKenney Home Care, Wright of Florida, My IT Future, National Aviation Academy, Flowers Bakery, Woodies Wash, Florida Department of Corrections, Elite Staffing Partners, Aflac, SEN Care Management and others.
