Vicky Bakery, a Miami staple since the early 1970s, has opened a new location in Fort Myers, its second in Southwest Florida and 26th in the state.
A third is planned to open next year in Cape Coral.
The new Vicky Bakery is at 4429 Cleveland Ave. in the El Dorado Plaza.
The family-owned bakery chain was founded in 1972 by Cuban refugees Antonio and Gelasia Cao in the Miami suburb of Hialeah. It is still family owned and, along with franchisees, operates mostly in and around Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Among its best-known products are its Cuban pastries, cakes and sandwiches.
The Fort Myers bakery and the one in Cape Coral will be owned by Andretti Tomeu, a nephew and godson of Vicky Bakery Managing Partner Amy Cao.
Tomeu, who has spent most of his career in nightlife marketing and management, says in a statement that he grew up in the family business “running around the bakery, helping out wherever I could.”
The other existing Vicky Bakery in Southwest Florida is in Collier County in the Ave Maria Town Center. It opened in March and is owned by franchisee Phong Ho who also owns a Tropical Smoothie and Oasis The Kitchen Lounge in the center.
As for the Cape Coral location, it will be a 602 Del Prado N.
That is where Vicky is building a 3,000-square-foot space for itself along with 3,600 square feet of inline retail space.
