NAPLES — An abandoned Sears in Naples is being torn down to make way for a new, luxury six-screen movie theater.
The old Sears is at the Coastland Center Mall. In addition to the new movie theater, the project, a proposed CinéBistro theater that could open in 2020, includes adding space for 354 parking spaces.
Fort Myers-based Honc Destruction is overseeing the demolition work, according to a statement. The 165,000-plus square-foot project is the company’s largest to date, and is estimated to take about three months to complete, the release adds.
“We are excited to be a part of a project of this magnitude,“ Honc Destruction President David Mulicka says in the statement. “Transforming the site is key to help revitalize the space and we look forward to witnessing the growth and opportunity it will bring to Naples and the surrounding community.”
Demolition debris will be sorted into wood, concrete, metal, rock, cardboard and fill material at HONC’s recycling facility, where more than 80% of it will be recycled, repurposed or sold.
Founded in 2002, Honc Destruction is one of several separately owned companies that carry the Honc family name. The company has completed thousands of commercial and residential demolition and recycling projects throughout Southwest Florida.
