There’s no shortage of entrepreneurial talent and energy in Southwest Florida, but the second annual Startup Weekend, set for April 13-15 in Fort Myers, will put entrepreneurs’ time management skills to the test.
The event, held at Endeavor Innovative Workspaces, a co-working hub, gives aspiring technical and non-technical entrepreneurs a mere 54-hour window to come up with a new company from scratch and pitch its product or service to a team of experienced venture-capital investors and businesspeople.
“The inaugural Startup Weekend event last fall was so successful and it generated so much interest that we started planning the next one right away,” states Bjorn Rosinus, CEO of Endeavor Innovative Workspaces, in a press release.
The weekend begins on Friday, April 13, with 75 participants making one-minute pitches to each other and then creating between 10 and 15 teams after they’ve selected the best ideas and brainstormed ways to bring their plans to “market.” Saturday is dedicated to business plan development and creation of prototypes. Endeavor Innovative Workspaces mentors and coaches will be on hand to help with this phase of the competition.
The event culminates Sunday evening with product demos and presentations to the panel.
In lieu of a cash prize and direct investment, the winning team will receive branding consultations, website development services and office space.
Registration costs $89, or $25 for students.
