BONITA SPRINGS — One of the fastest-growing regions of Southwest Florida is getting a new high school.
The Lee County School Board broke ground earlier in March on Bonita Springs High School, scheduled to open for the 2018-19 school year, according to a statement. The state-of-the-art, 76-acre campus will accommodate a total of 1,600 students, the release adds. Additional amenities include a 5.6-acre outdoor wetland classroom, energy efficient day-lighting windows and campus-wide LED lighting.
Future students of the school recently cast their votes to determine the school's colors and mascot. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Jeff Estes, school principal, revealed the Bull Sharks as the selected mascot and blue and green as the school colors.
Bonita Springs High School, at 25592 Imperial Parkway, will be the 14th public high school in the district, according to the district's website.
