Frank Sinatra's been there. So has Marilyn Monroe. And don't forget Farrah Fawcett.
The Busch Estate in Tampa, which played host to these famous guests and many others, was recently sold for $5.4 million. The property was initially listed for sale nearly a decade ago, and an auction failed to deliver a buyer.
Anheuser-Busch International purchased the property in the 1950s. According to a press release, after August Busch Jr. opened Busch Gardens, the Busch Estate became a winter operations center for Anheuser-Busch International as the company grew. The estate was sold in 1990, soon after Busch died.
During Busch's time, the estate was a magnet for famous guests such as Sinatra, Monroe and Fawcett, along with a host of others — four U.S. presidents, Kevin Costner, Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler, Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer and Derek Jeter, to name some.
Busch sold the waterfront property to a developer who operated it as a resort called The Birds of Paradise. The resort includes three waterfront homes that overlook a private marina. The new buyers, who prefer to remain anonymous, according to the release, plan to keep the resort in operation.
