The much-anticipated Grand Central mixed-use development in Fort Myers took a major step forward recently, when a Tampa-based group acquired an 18-acre parcel for $5.15 million.

2534 Santa Barbara LLC, a group led by Robert Beard and Joseph Bonora, of 3401 W. Cypress St., Tampa, according to state records, acquired the tract in the heart of Fort Myers.

A five-acre retail development is planned for the 4944 S. Cleveland Ave. land, with the balance of the property, according to a statement, slated for an “upscale, multifamily complex.”

LandQwest Commercial agent Brett E. Low represented the buyer in the transaction. The property comprises the former Page Mobile Village — among the last privately owned commercial tracts along U.S. 41 in Fort Myers.

“The project, now known as Grand Central, will be a thriving multi-use development that capitalizes on its U.S. 41 exposure,” Low says in the statement. “We are working with some exciting tenants to transform this neglected site into a flourishing commercial and residential destination.”
