NORTH PORT — Michelle Capogrosso, a former top official with the Council on Aging Florida in Tallahassee, has been named executive director of The Springs at South Biscayne in south Sarasota County.

The Springs is an assisted living and memory care community scheduled to open later this year in North Port. The lead developer of the project is Birmingham, Ala.-based Omega Communities, which is building up to a dozen assisted-living communities from Tampa and Orlando to Naples.

Capogrosso, according to a release, was previously the chief operating officer for the Council on Aging, a statewide advocacy group for seniors. Capogrosso also ran multiple health care centers in West Palm Beach for MorseLife Health System, the release adds.

“I am delighted to join The Springs at South Biscayne now — as construction is just beginning to wrap up and the community is starting to come to life,” says Capogrosso in the release. “I'm looking forward to the day we can open the doors and introduce seniors and their families to this beautiful new community with its gracious, private assisted living and memory care accommodations and meaningful social amenity spaces.”

The facility is being built on nine acres on Hoffman Street in North Port. The project includes 95 assisted living apartments and 38 memory care suites, and will be managed by Des Moines, Iowa-based Life Care Services.
