NORTH PORT — In an effort to find out what local businesses need and the challenges they face, the City of North Port has created a Business Retention Survey. The survey allows entrepreneurs and others to express their opinions on topics and issues related to operating and managing a business in the city. The survey was developed by the Business Development Task Force of the city's Business and Economic Development Advisory Board. To take the survey go to www.cityofnorthport.com/surveys/business/websurvey.aspx.
Business retention is a primary objective of the city's economic development strategic plan. The survey results will be used to help develop programs and projects aimed at retaining and nurturing local businesses.
Jack Donoghue, chairman of the Business Development Task Force, said he hopes that every North Port business will take the time to complete the survey. “We see the survey as an important tool in developing future assistance programs to help our local businesses,” he said.
The survey will be posted on the city's Web site through June to provide time for businesses to complete it. For more information, contact Economic Development Manager Allan Lane at 941-429-7001.
COLLIER COUNTY — The Collier County Commission is seeking applications for two positions on a new advisory group to monitor the countywide Public School Concurrency Program. The deadline for acceptance of resumes is April 30.
Members shall have knowledge or experience in at least one of the following areas: accounting, land development, demographics, land planning or business administration. The responsibilities of the group is limited to the monitoring of the implementation and effectiveness of this interlocal agreement, and to report once a year to the County Commission, each City Council, the School District and the general public on the implementation of the agreement and the effectiveness of school concurrency.
Members of advisory committees must be residents of Collier County, and are subject to the Florida government in the Sunshine Law. Applications may be obtained from www.colliergov.net, email to [email protected] or by calling (239) 252-8606.
FLORIDA — Jennifer E. Closshey, 55, of Plant City, president of Ideas & Innovations, Inc., has been reappointed to the Governing Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District by Gov. Charlie Crist for a term beginning April 7, 2009 and ending March 1, 2013.
Crist also recently reappointed two Gulf Coast area residents and appointed another to the Florida Commission on Tourism. Richard O. Gonzmart, 56, of Tampa, president, Columbia Restaurant Group, and Antonino “Tony” Lapi, 61, of Sanibel Island, president, Rochester Resorts, were reappointed for three-year terms. John J. Perez, 39, of Punta Gorda, general manager of Wyrern Hotel in Punta Gorda, was appointed to a one-year term.

The Collier County Commission will hear a presentation from the Rural Lands Stewardship Area Review Committee on Tuesday, April 21, at 9 a.m. The meeting will be in the Commission Chambers, 3rd floor Administration Building (Bldg. F), 3301 E. Tamiami Trail, Naples.

County engineers, planners, consultants, and state transportation staff will be available to listen to citizens comments concerning growth management and transportation issues at two public workshops on short or long-term transportation needs on Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23. The April 21 workshop will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Hugh Embry Branch Library, 14215 Fourth St. in Dade City. The April 23 workshop is at the West Pasco Government Center, First Floor Lobby Area, 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey from 3:30-6:30 p.m.

The City of North Port will host a Lunch & Learn workshop entitled, “Financing & Growing Your Business.” from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday April 23 in Room 302 at the North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and eat while participating in the workshop.
