Low-budget carrier Allegiant Airlines has offered a "rescue" fare for Spirit Airlines, its fellow low-budget airline, which ceased operations Saturday.
Customers who purchased tickets with Spirit Airlines will receive automatic refunds to their original form of payment, the company announced, but Allegiant Airlines has rolled out a special temporary offer to help get Spirit passengers back in the sky.
Now through May 12, Spirit customers can receive 50% back in “Allways Rewards” points on qualifying itineraries rebooked with Allegiant using the code ALLWAYSTHERE.
To further support travelers affected by the shutdown, Allegiant is also temporarily holding fees steady across all routes that overlap with Spirit. Spirit Airlines served 72 airports and operated 67 nonstop routes at the time of the shutdown, according to the company’s website.
"We recognize that uncertainty like this can be stressful for travelers, and while our current flight schedule only overlaps with some of the affected routes, our priority is to help re-accommodate passengers as much as we possibly can," says Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer, in a release.
Allegiant launched service in destinations such as Atlantic City last year and had previously introduced roughly 500,000 additional seats in markets where it competes with Spirit, according to the release.
To take advantage of Allegiant’s offer, sign up for a free “Allways Rewards” account on Allegiant.com and book an eligible itinerary before May 12 for travel dates as late as July 20. Before completing your booking, enter promo code ALLWAYSTHERE at checkout and receive a 50% rebate back in bonus points.
Unlike other airlines’ rewards programs, Allegiant’s “Allways Rewards” allows members to earn points based on dollars spent rather than miles flown.
