Entrepreneur proposes luxury motor club for former Sarasota drone facility

An entrepreneur is planning to transform two properties in Sarasota into a destination for vehicle enthusiasts called Sarasota Motor Club. The sites are 1060 Goodrich Ave. and 1716 10th Way in Gillespie Park. The Goodrich Avenue site formerly housed a drone manufacturing facility while 10th Way property is a single-family home.

The drone manufacturer — Lumenier — relocated its headquarters to Palmetto in north Manatee County, according to its Facebook page. The single-family home will be moved to another location or demolished, according to a letter submitted to the city on behalf of Sarasota-based Suncoast Equity LLC with the site plan for the motor club.

Suncoast Equity purchased 1060 Goodrich Ave. for $5.8 million in November 2025, according to Sarasota County property records. It also bought 1716 10th Way for $535,000 in April.

Scott Stevenson, the manager of Suncoast Equity, is the founder of Sarasota Motor Club. He plans to renovate the manufacturing facility for the club itself while the other parcel will be used for additional surface parking, according to the letter submitted to the city.

“The proposed club would provide a premium private club environment designed to elevate every detail of automotive ownership, lifestyle and connection,” the letter says.

Sarasota Motor Club anticipates having around 200 members, who will have access to a climate-controlled, secure facility where they can store their luxury, exotic and collector vehicles. Amenities will include a lounge, fine dining area, conference room, golf and racing simulators, private dining room and wine storage lockers. There will also be interior vehicle storage capacity for 90 vehicles.

The ground floor is planned at 21,320 square feet, of which 3,735 square feet would be used for club facilities, according to the plans. Storage, offices and event space would occupy the remainder of the area. A 4,000-square-foot mezzanine would house amenities like the lounge, golf simulator and additional dining space.

The projected cost for construction of Sarasota Motor Club was not disclosed in application materials.

Sarasota Motor Club anticipates having 15 employees, according to plans. It would be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with the potential to stay open until 11 p.m. for special events. Vehicular access would be from Goodrich Avenue.

A community workshop about the proposed Sarasota Motor Club was held July 15 at Selby Library.

The projected buildout date is summer 2027, according to the application, which says the contractor will be Venice-based JE Charlotte. DSDG Architects of Sarasota is designing the project.

Next, Sarasota Motor Club is tentatively scheduled to appear before Sarasota’s Development Review Committee at its Aug. 19 meeting.
