Take a meeting in the Oval Office, catch a movie under a star-lit sky inside the historic Tampa Theater, grab a drink with friends at Tropicana Field and then walk outside for an elevated, luxury take on an old-fashioned barn wedding.

That’s a day spent at Mision Lago Estate, a one-of-a-kind Thonotosassa lakefront compound that returned to the market Wednesday for $18.9 million.

The gated property at 11865 Fort King Highway spans nearly 22 acres, with 682 feet of shoreline along Lake Thonotosassa that’s not only a private residence but also an active wedding and event venue. At the heart of the estate, surrounded by lush gardens, courtyards, terraces and greenery, is a 31,500-square-foot Mediterranean and Italian rustic-inspired mansion that boasts six bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Christine Mastrilli of Compass has the listing.

The new asking price for Mision Lago Estate is $4 million below the $22.9 million the property was listed for in August 2025. That listing expired Aug. 31 at just under $20 million, according to the property’s history on Compass’ website.

“Mision Lago presents an extraordinary opportunity for those with exceptional vision,” the estate’s listing says. “Offered in conjunction with an adjoining commercial property featuring an established event venue, the estate offers the potential for an expansive private compound with additional hospitality and entertainment possibilities.

Every room in the main home was designed around the seller's global travels, the estate’s website says, highlighted by an exact replica of the Presidential Oval Office with a copy of the resolute desk, a subterranean 45-seat movie palace modeled after the historic Tampa Theater and a dedicated sports memorabilia room that acts as a private museum, a Tropicana Field-styled sports lounge and a “celebrity chef” kitchen.

Outside is a lagoon-style, zero-entry swimming pool with multi-level waterfalls, an orchid nursery and air conditioned greenhouse and barn, koi-filled lily ponds, mature olive groves and a 2.7-acre vineyard.

June Simpson and her late husband, Tom, built Mision Lago for about $18 million in 2012, June told The Wall Street Journal. The couple had sold their Tampa-based company, Health Advocates, to pharmaceutical giant AmerisourceBergen in 2006 in a deal valued at about $83 million in cash. At first, the couple bought a beachfront home in Malibu, the article says. But June, a Tampa native, couldn’t stay away for long from her two sons, who still call the area home.

The couple brought a bit of California back to Hillsborough County with them, hiring luxury builder Gary Brown to design the home after the Spanish missions of Santa Barbara.

The wedding venue got its start four years into construction of the estate, when the Simpsons’ son Rhett got married on the property. The celebration inspired June to turn the home’s horse barn into an event space, the Mision Lago Estate website says. The website advertises five indoor and outdoor event spaces and says the property hosts an average of one event per day.

Compass is marketing the house alongside that commercial property at 11901 Fort King Highway, which was advertised separately on LoopNet in 2025. The brokerage is pitching the combined properties as a potential corporate retreat or boutique hospitality destination. The residential listing leaves open what would transfer with the venue business.
