The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport has done it again.

It seems every month there’s a new record being broken in terms of how many passengers pass through SRQ. With Sarasota being a top spring break destination, it’s no surprise that the airport set the new record in March with 442,846 for the most passengers served in a month.

So far this year, SRQ has had 1.09 million passengers travel through which is an uptick of 92% compared to this time last year’s number of 564,066 passengers.

“We are pleased to see so many travelers were able to experience the convenience of our airport over the past three months,” says Rick Piccolo, president and CEO, in a release. “These record-breaking passenger numbers were unimaginable just a few years ago before SRQ grew to 11 airlines and 53 nonstop destinations.”

Piccolo also notes the airport has been quick to respond to the growing demand through increasing aircraft fuel storage, expanding the screening checkpoint, adding additional parking lots, and opening more food and beverage concessions.

“For 2022, we expect to break ground on over $150 million in construction projects including a new five-gate terminal,” he says. “We appreciate the community’s patience as we improve the airport and strive to maintain the easy, convenient, travel experience passengers enjoy when flying SRQ.”
