A longtime Sarasota law firm is joining forces with a Tampa-based practice. Norton Hammersley Lopez & Skokos will unite with Trenam Law, effective June 1.

Established in 1998, Norton Hammersley has an office at 1819 Main St., Suite 610, in Sarasota. The firm will bring nine attorneys to Trenam — spanning business, real estate, litigation and private client services — as well as additional support staff.

“This combination allows us to bring our clients the personalized, high-quality counsel of a boutique practice, now backed by the broader resources and regional reach of a larger team,” Sam Norton, founder and shareholder of Norton Hammersley, says in a statement.

Trenam Law, which was founded in 1970, has more than 90 attorneys practicing, with offices in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota.

“We are very fortunate for Norton Hammersley to have selected us to be their partners and help us grow our Sarasota presence.” Trenam Law Managing Shareholder Nelson Castellano says in a statement. “This combination represents a meaningful step forward in our firm’s continued growth and further strengthens our presence in Sarasota, an important strategic market as clients continue to recognize the tremendous business opportunities throughout this rapidly growing region.”

The following attorneys from Norton Hammersley are joining Trenam Law, according to the statement:

  • Sam Norton, shareholder — Focuses on real estate, banking and corporate transactions, including large-scale development and financing matters.
  • Philip Hammersley, shareholder – Handles complex construction and commercial litigation matters and serves as a Florida Supreme Court-certified mediator
  • John Compton, shareholder – Advises clients on estate planning, probate and business and tax matters, including succession and transactional planning
  • Christopher Fowler, shareholder – Advises clients on estate planning, probate and business and tax matters, including succession and transactional planning
