South Tampa staple Wright’s Gourmet House is opening its first satellite location, at Tampa General Hospital’s Davis Island campus.
Wright’s has been serving up sandwiches, salads, and desserts from its home on South Dale Mabry Highway for nearly 60 years, and celebrated the grand opening of its first ever sister location with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the hospital Feb 6.
Wright’s Gourmet House has signed a 10-year lease for its new location — the 2,900-square-foot restaurant space near the hospital’s first-floor East Pavilion entrance previously occupied by McDonalds. The restaurant is conveniently located just outside the hospital’s “team member” entrance, near the pharmacy and Starbucks, and is accessible to the general public through the main security and visitor entrance.
The new Wright’s cafe and deli at TGH offers a full-service kitchen with a selection of Wright’s menu items available for dine-in, takeout and “grab-and-go” purchases. A separate to-go pickup window will also be added to the location, although a construction timeline for the space is still being finalized. Until then, a selection of Wright’s cakes, cupcakes and cookies will be available in the hospital cafeteria in the coming weeks.
Wright’s will welcome guests daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., offering early-morning favorites like breakfast sandwiches on English muffins or Cuban toast, egg scrambles and cinnamon rolls available until 10:30 a.m. Throughout the day, guests can purchase freshly-brewed Buddy Brew coffee, espresso and cold brew from the location, along with a menu of fan favorite sandwiches, salads and desserts.
“Wright’s is not just another dining option, it’s a beloved community institution that elevates the daily experience for our patients, visitors and team members,” Donna Tope, vice president of operations at Tampa General Hospital, says in a release. “We’re thrilled to welcome Wright’s to the campus as part of our commitment to quality, consistency and whole-person care.”
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Wright's Gourmet House, which was founded by Marjorie Wright and her husband Pete in 1963. Marjorie previously served as a Director of Admissions at Tampa General Hospital, according to a release, a role centered on exceptional customer service, just like the philosophy that drives her namesake deli.
Tampa Hospitality conglomerate Caspers Co. acquired Wright's Gourmet House in 2024. Caspers CEO Blake Casper is on the TGH board and is its vice chair and treasurer.
