Detwiler's buys Palmetto property for $1.06M

A popular family-owned grocer has purchased a 1.03-acre industrial property in Manatee County. Detwiler’s bought 1119 19th Ave. E. in Palmetto for $1.06 million, according to a statement from American Property Group of Sarasota, which brokered the deal.

The seller is Dream Towing LLC, which acquired the site in 2021 for $475,000, according to Manatee County property records. 

Detwiler’s, which has six stores across Sarasota and Manatee counties, plans to use the location for future expansion, although specific plans have not been disclosed. Its Palmetto store is adjacent to the newly acquired property. 

In 2017, Detwiler's bought the site for its store at 1800 U.S. 30 in Palmetto for nearly $2.92 million, according to Manatee County property records. It opened in 2018 on the 8.74-acre property.

Adam Doak of American Property Group represented both buyer and seller in the recent transaction involving the more than 1-acre industrial site on 19th Avenue E.

“This sale demonstrates the continued demand for strategically located industrial land in Manatee County, particularly properties that can support the growth of established neighboring businesses,” Doak says in a statement. “We are pleased to have helped complete a transaction that allows a well-known local company to continue investing in the Palmetto community.”

The newly acquired property on 19th Avenue is zoned for heavy commercial and industrial uses. Fully fenced, it has a configuration that could support outside storage, equipment yards, fleet operations and other intensive commercial uses, according to a statement. It is also about 3.5 miles from the Detwiler’s distribution center that opened in September 2025 in the Florida International Tradeport at 1811 51st Ave E. in Palmetto.

Currently, the grocery chain has two stores in development, including one in Braden River Plaza and another in North Port. The Braden River store off State Road 64 is expected to open this fall, while the North Port location is targeting the fourth quarter of 2028.
