Changes are in progress at Southwest Florida International Airport, where work to expand the terminal is underway as the Fort Myers airport aims to increase its capacity and update its existing space.

New walls will be installed as part of a temporary checkpoint for Concourse C starting at 8 p.m. April 23, according to a statement from RSW. Wayfinding signage will be posted in the terminal for those headed to Concourse C, who should give themselves extra time.

Concessions options have also changed: Nathan's Famous, Quiznos, Shula’s Bar & Grill and Starbucks Coffee in the center of the main terminal permanently closed on April 19.

There are still food options before security: Dunkin’ will remain open in the hallways leading to Concourses B and D; Jose Cuervo Tequileria in the central main terminal will serve packaged sandwiches and salads; and Coastal News in the central main terminal will offer grab and go options as well as bottled beverages and snacks. There is also a concession kiosk in the baggage claim, according to a statement from RSW.

Beyond security on all concourses, travelers will still have a variety of fast-food, sit-down restaurants, bars and grab-and-go options available, officials say.

Virginia-based Parsons Corporation will be overseeing project management for Phase 1 of the RSW terminal expansion project, which the company says entails 200,000 square feet of new and remodeled terminal space. The goal is to consolidate checkpoints, improve connectivity between concourses, add amenities, increase airside concessions and enhance the passenger experience by reducing wait times, according to a statement from Parsons Corporation.

"We are honored to support the Lee County Port Authority to ensure the successful delivery of Phase 1 of the transformative Terminal Expansion Project,” Mark Fialkowski, president of Infrastructure North America for Parsons, says in a statement. “Our team is committed to applying our extensive expertise in airport infrastructure to enhance the passenger experience in Southwest Florida and to deliver solutions that enhance the region’s mobility and economic growth.”

In 2024, RSW served more than 11 million passengers, making it among the 50 busiest airports in the country.
