The sun is shining on a Bradenton-based insurance company after it announced it was expanding.

SUNZ Insurance announced last week it was expanding its licensing footprint to include these 12 states and territories:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Washington, D.C.

The company grew into 13 states last year. With the most recent expansion, the company is licensed to write workers' compensation policies in 41 states and offer workers’ compensation insurance coverage in all 50 states through its fronting partnership.

The news was presented by Sunz President Rick Leonard at the NAPEO Risk Management Workshop, according to a statement.

"Our team is experienced, proactive and predictive as we develop, implement and manage personalized workers' compensation plans tailored to each client's unique needs and unique geographic requirements,” Leonard says in a release. “We look forward to connecting with new businesses across these additional states to help make every workplace safer for employees."

The workers’ compensation insurance company has been providing nationwide coverage to PEOs, staffing agencies, transportation companies and large employers since 2005. SUNZ Insurance does more than $400 million a year in revenue and in late 2020 received a significant capital investment from Wall Street titan Blackstone.
