FORT MYERS — A 23-year breast cancer survivor and entrepreneur, Debra Newman, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. She is the founder of PhotoMagicEvents, a photo booth rental company based in Fort Myers.
Founded in 1993, the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation began as a grassroots organization dedicated to ending breast cancer through advocacy, education and research.
“I look forward to building deeper relationships in the community by connecting those touched by breast cancer and living in Southwest Florida with the Foundation’s work,” says Newman in a statement.
Newman was a registered nurse before launching a computer training company in Cleveland. She continued to volunteer at free clinics and served on the board of directors of several nonprofits before moving to Southwest Florida in the 1990s, according to a statement.
In addition to volunteer work with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Newman has served on the board of the United Arts Council; was a member of a Collier County School Board Task Force; served as a founding board member on the Resort and Hospitality Management School at Florida Gulf Coast University; and was a board member of the marketing academy at Gulf Coast High School. She currently serves on the advisory board for FGCU’s Small Business Development Center.
