Polk County got a major boost in economic development earlier this year when the new, state-of-the-art ArrMaz Innovation Center opened.

Mulberry-based ArrMaz, which produces specialty chemicals customers use to produce phosphate fertilizer, has planned the center for several years. The new facility houses the company's research and development team. It incorporates a “modern work environment with cutting-edge laboratory equipment for analytical and synthetic chemistry,” according to a statement.

ArrMaz, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017, has grown from a handful of people to 400 employees, with customers in more than 70 countries. Polk County Commission Chairman Todd Dantzler was among the area business officials who attended a recent ceremony at the new facility, hosted by the Central Florida Development Council. “Polk County is thrilled ArrMaz chose to expand their operations here,” CFDC Chairman Larry Madrid says in the release.

The building's layout is based on an open laboratory concept, with separate scientific disciplines now co-located and sharing resources to foster collaboration, say company officials.

“Mulberry is not only our headquarters but it is also our hub for global innovation,” ArrMaz CEO Dave Keselica says in the statement. “This new Innovation Center will allow us to continue to attract great scientific minds to ArrMaz and to Polk County, while enabling us to innovate further and provide even more responsive support to our customers worldwide.”
