The Florida Venture Forum held its ninth annual Florida Early Stage Capital Conference May 17 at the Hilton Carillon Park in St. Petersburg, hearing from 20 companies that competed for a share of $150,000.
Each presenting company delivered a pitch to an audience of approximately 300 investors and a panel of judges. Three cash winners were chosen, including:
First Place ($100,000): Candidate.Guru Inc., a Weston-based human resource tool that uses cloud-based big data analytics to predict a cultural “fit” between job candidates and potential employers;
Second Place ($30,000): Symptify, a Sunny Isles Beach-based virtual doctor that helps users decipher causes for their symptoms, what to do about them and where to find help.
Third Place ($20,000): Streann Media, a Miami-based supplier of tools in the audio and visual streaming industry.
The Florida Venture Forum also held its sixth annual statewide collegiate business plan competition during the conference. Phil Michaels, CEO of Tembo Education, representing USF, won the top prize. Tembo Education is a home-based curriculum accessible by SMS text messages.
