A total of $150,000 in cash awards is up for grabs May 17 at the ninth annual Florida Early Stage Capital Conference.
At this year's conference, held at the Hilton Carillon in St. Petersburg, 20 companies will compete for funding. The $150,000 will be presented among the first, second and third winning companies, a statement says.
The 20 presenters were selected from a pool of about 100 applicants, according to the statement. Gulf Coast companies competing for prizes include:
Alakai Defense Systems Inc., a Largo-based technology company specializing in the creation of bomb-detecting laser sensors for the military;
D2 Health Management LLC, a Tampa-based firm that provides individualized treatment plans based on a patient's DNA;
Fresco Foods, a Tampa-based line of locally packaged prepared foods;
Harvest CROO Robotics, a Plant City-based developer of robotics for agriculture;
KynderMed in St. Petersburg, which is behind a safe medical device that uses technology to prevent preterm births;
PikMyKid, a Tampa-based company that uses algorithms and relational positioning methods to streamline student dismissals at schools;
RankMiner Predictive Analytics, a St. Petersburg-based business that extracts emotions from voice conversations to predict human behavior;
TAO Connect Inc., a St. Petersburg-based provider of online education tools;
Washlava, a Tampa firm behind a patent-pending mobile payment system for self-service laundry.
