St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport set a record for November passengers last month, topping the previous year by 7%.
The 144,394 passengers that traveled through the airport in November also more than doubled the 69,863 travelers that deplaned from the airport, under the call letters PIE, during the same month in 2012, according to airport statistics.
For the first 11 months of 2016, passenger counts were up 3% over all of 2015, and up 132% over the total for 2007, the airport reported. In all, 1.673 million people traveled through St. Petersburg/Clearwater through November.
The airport has had eight consecutive years of passenger growth, dating to 2009, statistics show.
More passenger increases may be in the offing, too, the result of new flights originating from PIE.
Discount carrier Allegiant Airlines began flights to and from Trenton, N.J., on Nov. 4 and to and from Portsmouth, N.H., on Nov. 17. It also intends to start flying to Austin, Texas, in mid-February, and to Cleveland, Ohio — though that flight will replace existing service to and from Akron-Canton, Ohio.
In all, Allegiant operates 53 nonstop flights to or from St. Petersburg/Clearwater International.
Meanwhile, seasonal flyer Sunwing resumed flights to the airport from Toronto Oct. 31, and it plans to add flights from Halifax on Feb. 8.
