FORT MYERS — Prices for existing single-family homes and condos in Lee County showed no signs of slowing down in February as demand increased and supply shrank.
The median sale price for an existing single-family home in Lee County in February reached $185,000, a 19% increase compared with the same month one year ago, according to the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach.
Condo prices have been rising, too. The median sale price for an existing condo rose 11% to $155,000 in February compared with February 2013, the association reported.
“As prices continue to rise and inventory remains tight, desirable homes are selling quickly,” says Karen Swanbeck, president of the association, in a statement. “We anticipate this will be the case through April, as seasonal visitors are making the decision to purchase.”
Lack of inventory is crimping sales. Realtors helped sell 779 existing single-family homes in February, a 14% drop from the same month in 2013. Also, existing condo sales fell 10% to 463 in the same period, the association reported.
