FORT MYERS — Shell Point Retirement Community opened an aquatic complex that cost $2 million to build.

The LifeQuest Aquatic Center includes a 99,000-gallon recreation pool with lap lanes and a zero-entry access. The center also includes a 23,000-gallon therapy pool with a special ramp and an adaptable water chair for those who need help getting into it.

In addition, the center includes a seven-person hot tub, a pool house and shaded areas around the pools. Retirement communities have increasingly been building luxurious amenities to attract new residents. Wright Construction Group, Jackson Pools, Johnson Engineering, RDg Planning & Design and Winter Interiors spent eight months building the Shell Point aquatic center. It replaces the original island pool, which was built in 1968.
