FORT MYERS — James Humphrey, the former mayor of Fort Myers who oversaw downtown's revival in the 2000s, has joined the law firm Knott Ebelini Hart.
As mayor of Fort Myers from 2000 to 2009, Humphrey steered the city's condo and retail development downtown during the real estate boom. He joined the law firm of Fowler White Boggs shortly after he became mayor.
Humphrey founded Knott Ebelini Hart in 1982, a Fort Myers-based law firm then known as Humphrey, Jones & Myers. “We are pleased to welcome Jim back to the firm,” says George Knott, shareholder at Knott Ebelini Hart. “As founder of the firm and a recognized leader in the community with extensive public and private practice experience, his insight is greatly valued and will again be an asset to the firm and our clients.” Humphrey's areas of practice will include government, administrative, real estate and land-use law.
Humphrey is currently counsel to the Lee Memorial Health System board of directors and to the Lee County and Charlotte County industrial development authorities. He also serves as trustee of Hodges University and as a member of the board of directors for Encore National Bank.
This story has been updated to correct that Humphrey joined Fowler White Boggs shortly after becoming mayor.
