NAPLES — Rob Moher, one of the executives at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida who recently helped the group raise $38.8 million, has been selected as president and CEO of the nonprofit organization.

Moher most recently was interim chief operating officer after former Conservancy President and CEO Andrew McElwaine resigned this summer to become president of the American Farmland Trust. Moher was selected among 100 applicants vying to lead the organization, the group says.

The Conservancy has challenged the government and private landowners over what it considers mismanagement of endangered species, including the Florida panther. Under McElwaine's tenure, the organization also renovated and expanded the nature center it operates in Naples.

Before joining the Conservancy staff 14 years ago, Moher served as regional director for Bahamas National Trust where he was responsible for protection, management and development of three national parks including coastal and marine parks. Prior to that, he served as a research officer for the International Development Research Center in Ottawa, Canada, where he was involved in environmental policy research on an international level.
