FORT MYERS — IPC The Hospitalist Company Inc. announced it has expanded its Florida presence with the acquisition of select operations of Cape Coral Hospitalists Inc., based in Fort Myers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition is IPC's second in Florida in the past 30 days, and it's looking for more expansion opportunities in the state, it says in a statement.

“Florida still holds significant growth potential for IPC in both acute and post-acute care facilities,” IPC President and COO R. Jeffrey Taylor says in a statement. “As with any practice we acquire, the physicians joining IPC can look to us for resources and expertise to continually add value to their hospitals and practices, and to constantly improve the quality of patient care.”

Ananad R. Mahadevan will continue to provide support to Cape Coral Hospitalists under IPC. “Joining forces with a strong national company such as IPC ensures that a practice can be solid and stable despite the looming uncertainties of health care reform,” Mahadevan says in the statement. “IPC is clearly the 'go-to' company for independent hospitalist practices considering alternative ways to secure their future.”

North Hollywood, Calif.-based IPC (symbol: IPCM; recent price: $51.92) is the national's leading private practice hospitalist group, managing more than 200 practice groups and providing care in more than 1,100 medical facilities in 28 states.
