HMA names general counsel

NAPLES — Hospital operator Health Management Associates named Steven Clifton senior vice president and general counsel, six months after the unexpected resignation of Timothy Parry.

In a statement, HMA says Clifton brings 25 years of experience in legal affairs, most recently serving as vice president of legal operations at hospital giant HCA. Clifton spent 18 years at HCA overseeing a legal team of 45 attorneys.

“This is a very active time of change in the health care industry and we are pleased to have someone of Steve's caliber, with his extensive experience, join our team,” says Gary Newsome, HMA's president and CEO, in a statement.
