FORT MYERS -- In November, 1,326 new foreclosure notices were filed on properties in Lee County, one for every 276 homes in the area. That rate is down 27% over the year — but still the highest among major metro areas in Southwest Florida.
Second-highest was Sarasota County, with one new foreclosure notice for every 335 housing units in November, according to the latest data from RealtyTrac.
Across the region, 6,487 foreclosure filings were issued on residential properties, out of the 2.3 million housing units in the area, or one for every 355 housing units.
Statewide, 24,739 properties received foreclosure filings in November, more than any other state besides California.
James Saccacio, co-founder of RealtyTrac, says nationwide filing activity suggests “a new set of incoming foreclosure waves, many of which may roll into the market as REOs or short sales sometime early next year,” as scheduled auctions reached a nine-month high in November.
