Women Lawyers Gathered (Tampa edition)

More than 106 attorneys attended the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers' first luncheon meeting for 2004-05 at the Tampa Club.

Members of the professional service group focused mostly on business matters and recognized association members for outstanding work. Committee chairs gave brief presentations on activities planned for the next several months.

HAWL President Barbara Twine-Thomas opened the meeting by recognizing the distinguished group of judges in attendance. She then introduced newly appointed Hillsborough County Attorney Renee Lee as a guest and prospective member.

This year at each luncheon meeting Twine-Thomas plans to recognize the outstanding work of three local attorneys as part of a "Lawyer in the Spotlight" series.

This meeting Twine-Thomas recognized Holland & Knight pro bono counsel Robin Rosenberg, Fowler & White labor law attorney Cathy Beveridge and Caroline Kapusta Black, a family law partner at Sessums Mason & Black PA.

Twine-Thomas also commended a community service project initiated by Catherine Gail Novack of the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Novack initiated a matching fund to honor and reward the efforts of a 10-year-old girl who came to the aid of a 5-year-old boy left unattended by a school bus driver at the wrong bus stop.

Acting on Novack's lead, Twine-Thomas says the association matched Novack's $100 contribution. Twine-Thomas urged other members of the association to contribute as well.
