Professionalism Award given

to George Edgecomb Assoc.

The George Edgecomb Bar Association won accolades from the Florida Bar and and the Florida Supreme Court for its "Sligh Middle School Project," which provides mentoring to students.

Attorneys that belong to the association work with Sligh students to encourage them to excel academically and to help them with career planning. The Tampa school has a large African-American population.

Throughout the year, association members make presentations concerning ethical practices, moral character, peer pressure and professionalism. For its efforts, the group was presented with the bar and court's Professionalism Award.

Longtime Tampa attorney

inducted into mediator college

Attorney J. Bert Grandoff of Allen Dell PA was inducted into the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. A 1965 graduate of Stetson University College of Law, Grandoff is a founding fellow and president of the American College of Construction Lawyers.

Justice Pariente recognized

for work on behalf of families

Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente received the 2004 William J. Hoeveler Judicial Award from the Florida Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and the Florida Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism.

Pariente has been "a leader in the development of concepts of restorative justice," according to a statement from the bar. She chaired the court's Steering Committee on Children in the Courts. Plus, she speaks throughout the state on professionalism, unified family court issues, juvenile justice issues and crime prevention.

She has served on high court since 1997.

Florida Bar seeks

lawyer as examiner

The Florida Bar Board of Examiners is looking for one good lawyer. The bar's Board of Governors is accepting applications, through July 16, for a vacancy on the board of examiners.

Applicants must have been a member of the bar for at least five years and a practicing attorney with "scholarly attainments and have an affirmative interest in legal education and requirements for admission to the bar," according to a prepared statement.

new associate

Hector J. Rivera, a civil litigator, joined Barr, Murman, Tonelli, Slother & Sleet, Tampa, as an associate.
