The technology business sector will be led by two firm partners, one of which is based in the Sarasota office.
Two Shumaker partners are set to take on the firm’s technology business sector in a nod to the business world becoming increasingly more digital.
Doug Cherry, based in the Sarasota office, is the new technology business sector chair. Phillip Lee will serve as the co-chair from the Toledo, Ohio, office. The goal is for the two firm partners to help companies with a technological and innovative focus navigate challenges through evolving technology.
“We understand the specialized legal needs of tech companies, the patchwork of new legislation and regulations targeted at this sector, and the pressures and challenges these companies face; we are ready to help,” Cherry says in a release. “Our new technology business sector is focused on anticipating the challenges and opportunities of the digital age to benefit our clients.”
Shumaker, a legal and legislative services provider, was founded in 1925. It now has more than 300 lawyers and advisers, 55 paralegals and 550 employees spread across its nine offices, which includes a location in Tampa and Sarasota.
“Technology is evolving rapidly,” Lee says. “Our clients need practical and focused legal advice to ensure they are taking advantage of new developments and also protecting their business interests and proprietary rights as the legal state of play changes.”
