A New York company focused on growing best-in-class commercial roofing businesses recently acquired Unicoat Industrial Roofing Corp., which is headquartered in Bradenton. Skybound Service Partners, backed by New York investment firm Garnett Station Partners, has added the Manatee County business to its portfolio. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Unicoat Industrial Roofing Corp., founded by David Kessler in 2000, has installed more than 4 million gallons of roof coatings. Its reach extends beyond Florida, with offices in Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Through the acquisition, Skybound Service Partners plans to expand Unicoat Industrial Roofing Corporation’s service area even further, according to a statement.
“Unicoat has a long history in providing value-engineered, high-quality roofing systems in the roofing coatings product category,” Skybound CEO Joe Dougherty says in an email to the Business Observer, responding to a question about the driving force behind the acquisition. “They serve customers throughout the Southeast and into the Midwest. Skybound’s unique organic growth process provides a path for Unicoat to scale into new geographies in the years ahead.”
Skybound provides a commercial roofing services platform focused on partnering with best-in-class family and founder-backed companies that offers resources and capital support to help grow the businesses. Unicoat Industrial Roofing will retain its brand name, management team and employees following the acquisition, the release states.
Since its founding in June 2025, Skybound has acquired five companies, including Unicoat. Others are David M. Maines & Associates in Lewistown, Pennsylvania; Technique Roofing Systems in Helena, Ohio; Roof Technology Partners in Woodstock, Georgia; and Quality Trusted Commercial Construction & Roofing in Minneapolis.
Skybound’s expansion is backed by Garnett Station Partners, a firm that manages about $4.5 billion in assets and is focused on sectors including consumer and business services, health and wellness, automotive and food and beverage.
