The former treasurer of the North Manatee Soccer Club has been charged in a scheme to defraud the organization of more than $50,000 after investigators say they found she caused the club to lose more than $146,000 over the last three years.
Nancy Fetzner, 52, of Parrish, was removed from her position of treasurer for the North Manatee Soccer Club following her arrest, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. She was arrested Aug. 11 and released two days later on $50,000 bond.
In a social media post, officials with the soccer club and one it operates, Mutiny Soccer Club, based out of Palmetto, say all games and practices will continue as planned in the wake of the arrest.
Fetzner was the youth soccer club’s treasurer from 2015 to 2026, according to the affidavit for her arrest warrant. After the team manager noticed transactions in the team’s accounts that appeared to be for personal use related to Fetzner, the team manager contacted the sheriff’s office. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says in a statement that it was notified of suspected financial fraud on June 29.
Upon reviewing the accounts, investigators found Fetzner used club funds for tickets to sporting events, including Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning games, as well as for a Royal Caribbean Cruise and purchases in Las Vegas, the affidavit says, noting the transactions occurred from August 2023 to July 2026.
After the deputy investigating the case informed the newly-appointed president of the North Manatee Soccer Club of the situation, the president said Fetzner told him there was a “glitch” in the Chase banking system that led anyone looking at the business account to see her personal account, the affidavit says.
When the investigator spoke with Fetzner’s husband, he said he had no idea of what had been happening and offered to write a $30,000 check to the North Manatee Soccer Club to “make all the charges drop and disappear,” according to the affidavit.
The total loss to North Manatee Soccer Club as a result of Fetzner’s activities was $146,686.73, the affidavit says.
“The money involved is not simply numbers on a balance sheet. These are funds entrusted to Mutiny Soccer Club by our families, sponsors, donors and community partners,” the Mutiny Soccer Club, which is under the North Manatee Soccer Club umbrella, posted on Facebook. “We have hired a professional bookkeeper to manage the club's finances moving forward and have begun implementing additional financial controls and oversight.”
The organization added that it has been fully cooperative in the investigation and emphasized that it will continue providing youth soccer services to the community.
“Mutiny Soccer Club is not in financial trouble. The club remains operational and financially capable of providing the programs and services our families expect,” Mutiny Soccer Club wrote on Facebook. “Practices will continue. Games will continue. Our competitive and rec/reational programs will continue. Our commitments to our players and families will continue. The alleged actions of one individual will not define Mutiny Soccer Club or determine our future.”
Fetzner was also entrusted with funds as the secretary/bookkeeper for Buffalo Creek Middle School, which is conducting an internal investigation, according to the affidavit. Buffalo Creek Middle is in Palmetto.
Her arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Manatee County Judicial Center.
Fetzner’s arrest comes one month after the former treasurer of Sarasota Little League was sentenced to a year in jail for stealing more than $200,000 from that organization.
