Breeze Airways is looking to launch its first ever international flight out of Tampa International Airport next year, the airline announced Thursday — a nonstop route connecting Tampa Bay to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The seasonal route to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is expected to begin Feb. 11, pending final government approvals. Beginning Thursday, travelers can book nonstop, one-way flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting at $99.

“Tampa was one of our original launch cities and we’re excited to celebrate another first with the community as we launch our first international flights,” David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO, says in the airline’s announcement. “We look forward to bringing the same convenience and elevated experience our TPA Guests love about our domestic flights to this new international service.”

Neeleman has played a role in launching numerous airlines such as JetBlue and West Jet, and introduced Breeze Airways in May 2021. The budget airline has since grown to operate more than 300 year-round and seasonal routes to more than 80 cities in the U.S. and abroad. Breeze currently offers 29 destinations out of TPA, making Montego Bay its 30th.

“We are thrilled to not only be a partner in Breeze Airways’ growth since its 2021 inaugural flight at TPA, but to be among its first airports to offer international service,” Tampa International Airport CEO Michael Stephens says in the announcement.

Breeze Airways also announced Thursday that it has become certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a U.S. flag carrier, making it the first airline to do so in more than a decade. The upstart was also the first U.S. domestic airline to be certified by Autism Double Checked and is now the official airline of Make-a-Wish Utah.

Breeze offers travelers first class-style and preferred seating options, free family seating and onboard Wi-Fi in its brand-new fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft without any change or cancellation fees.
