Silver Airways has shut down and is canceling all flights out of Tampa International Airport.
The Fort Lauderdale-based airline, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December, posted an alert on its website Wednesday morning saying it had sold its assets to a company “who unfortunately has determined to not continue Silver’s flight operations” to Florida and elsewhere.
“Please do not go to the airport,” the alert says. “All credit card purchases should be refundable through your credit card company or your travel agency.”
Tampa International issued its own statement Wednesday morning announcing that Silver flights to Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola and Key West had been canceled. It pointed passengers to other airlines that travel to those destinations and encouraged them to seek refunds from where they purchased tickets.
A Tampa International spokesman says that since 2011 Silver has operated 10 arriving and 10 departing flights per day — 12 between Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, four to and from Pensacola and four to and from Key West.
It served 214,000 Silver passengers in Fiscal Year 2024.
Silver Airways in a Dec. 30 letter to customers said it had filed for bankruptcy protection to “allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you — our valued customers.”
Silver, according to its website, flew to a handful of Florida destinations as well as the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
