A new seafood restaurant will open on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota where Mexican restaurant Jalisco Mexican Grill used to be. Mr. & Mrs. Crab is “coming soon” to 8389 S. Tamiami Trail, according to a sign at the site, near the Sarasota Square Mall.

Mr. & Mrs. Crab is a franchise restaurant that has more than 20 locations in Florida, including in Bradenton, Brandon, Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Tampa, where it has three restaurants. It also operates in Michigan, Mississippi and Utah.

The company features Southern-style seafood boils. On the menu are items like shrimp, mussels, snow crab legs, clams, crawfish and lobster. Diners can create their own seafood boil, selecting a seasoning and spice level. Seasonings include Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter and the Mr. & Mrs. Crab special blend. Other dishes range from coconut shrimp to corn on the cob to fried pickles to calamari to mac and cheese. Soups, salads and cocktails will be available as well at the restaurant, which will feature a full bar.

Mr. & Mrs. Crab did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the location coming to Sarasota, including when it plans to open. In the meantime, the business has established a Mr. & Mrs. Crab Sarasota Facebook page promoting the venue.

The owner of the building at 8389 S. Tamiami Trail is Square South Plaza LLLP, which has the same address as ICORR Properties International, a property management company based at One Sarasota Tower. The previous tenant at the US 41 location, Jalisco Mexican Grill, closed in October 2024, citing “challenges of recent years, from economic shifts to the impacts of hurricanes."
