Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers had its second-busiest June on record in the 42-year history of the airport, according to airport officials.

In June, there were 696,867 passengers who traveled through the airport in Fort Myers. The highest passenger count on record for June was in 2021, when Southwest Florida International saw 839,377 passengers, according to the Lee County Port Authority.

The top five airlines last month were Delta, which accounted for 24.3% of the total passengers, followed by Southwest (19.3%), American (16.5%), United (15.2%) and JetBlue (7.9%).

Passenger traffic is up 20% year to date, airport officials say. June’s second-highest passenger count followed the airport seeing its second-best April and second-best May in the airport’s history.

June passenger traffic marked an increase of 8% compared with June 2023, officials say.

The increase in passengers in June came at the same time as the airport saw a decrease in aircraft operations compared with the previous year. Aircraft operations encompasses takeoffs and landings, a spokesperson says. Southwest Florida International had 4,468 aircraft operations in June, down 2% compared with June 2023. Page Field had 13,512 airport operations, down 22% compared with June 2023, officials say.

In 2023, the airport in Fort Myers served more than 10 million passengers, according to officials, making it one of the top 50 airports for passenger traffic in the United States. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
