NAPLES — The Village School of Naples has announced plans for a $3.2 million expansion and renovation that will result in a near doubling of academic space in its two-story Upper School building, a new drama studio and track and field facilities.

Construction on the expansion, which is being undertaken to accommodate current and future growth, is slated to begin this spring. “The Village School is well-positioned for strategic growth and long-term sustainability,” says Dennis Chapman, Head of School for The Village School, in a statement. “This latest phase of work will enhance the student experience and help us achieve our vision of being the preferred educational choice for a diverse range of students and families in our community.”

The school, at 6000 Goodlette-Frank Road, intends to convert existing North Naples United Methodist Church space into classrooms and administrative space for counseling and college admissions. Additionally, an existing lunchroom will be converted into a culinary arts test kitchen for the school’s Culinary Arts Program.

A donation from the Tayon family of Naples will result in the Lauren S. Tayon Drama Studio on the school’s campus. The studio will feature a large main stage, rehearsal space, music rooms, storage facilities and dining and theater seating for performances.

The new track and field facilities were made possible by a donation from Douglas and Jeanne Kopp, also of Naples, the release states. It will include a 400-meter synthetic track with lighting and spectator stands and an interior field for soccer, lacrosse or football games.

The school hopes to complete the construction on the sporting facilities by late fall. “More than 60 percent of our students participate on an athletic team and more than 100 of them participate each athletic season,” says Cassie Barone, Athletic Director for The Village School, in citing the importance of maintaining and enhancing athletic facilities.

The Village School traces its history to 1985, when it began as an outgrowth of the church. In 2000, it relocated to its present location and began with 37 students. Its upper school division was added in 2017, and last June it celebrated its first graduating class of 12th grade seniors.
