FORT MYERS — The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, a longtime benefactor of Lee Health and NCH, two of the largest health care systems in Southwest Florida, has donated $40,000 to the SWFL Stronger Together campaign.
Dick Schulze, who founded Best Buy and helped grow it into one of the largest consumer electronic retailers in the world, crated the foundation. The SWFL Stronger Together campaign, meanwhile, raises funds and other support for both health care organizations. Both hospital systems, according to a statement, are sharing policies, action plans and media updates, coordinating outreach efforts, working together to re-open surgeries and continuing to work on on-going training for team members.
“There is a very real need for humanitarian services, and the effect on the economy will be enduring, but among the immediate needs is our health care providers and systems,” says Chris Simoneau, The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation chief foundation and development officer, in the statement. “Lee Health has been feeding our people at a cost of $17,000 per week, and supplying more iPads and other technology support to keep everyone in our hospitals connected. These are just a couple examples of the impacts of this pandemic for the foreseeable future and every dollar aids our teams in helping our health care heroes who are serving this community.”
The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, founded in 2004, supports organizations in both Florida and Schulze’s native Minnesota in human and social services, education and health and medicine. In Florida it works with organizations in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry & Glades counties.
