The role of first-line supervisor for construction and trade workers is No. 19 on gijobs.com's 2019 “Top 25 Hot Jobs” list for veterans. And national construction giant Suffolk, with its Southwest Florida operations based in Estero, is playing a supporting role in that surge.
With titles ranging from project engineer to senior superintendent, some of the newer ones were recruited by fellow former military Suffolk already employed. “Suffolk has always hired the best and the brightest and we’ve found that our company culture is a great fit for those professionals transitioning from a military background,” says Suffolk’s Florida Gulf Coast Region COO Josh Christensen. “Their work ethic and professionalism works well within our environment.”
Veterans hired by Suffolk say the company’s organizational structure dovetails nicely with their military experience. Harold Pick, who served in the U.S. Army and completed his military career as Acting Battalion Operations officer performing construction projects at the largest NATO training area in Europe, joined Suffolk’s Southwest Florida team as a senior scheduler after working in construction in South America.
