SARASOTA — Boog Powell, one of the all-time great Baltimore Orioles, will bring his iconic Boog’s BBQ to Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota for the 2019 Baltimore Orioles spring training season.

Boog’s BBQ first opened on Eutaw Street at Baltimore’s Camden Yards on opening day in 1992. Powell’s son, J.W. Powell, will operate the stand at Ed Smith Stadium, according to a press release. It opened for business at the Left Field Pavilion opening day Feb. 23.

“No trip to Oriole Park at Camden Yards is complete without a stop at Boog’s BBQ, and we are delighted to offer the same experience to fans at Ed Smith Stadium,” says Greg Bader, Orioles vice president of communications and marketing, in the statement. “As an Orioles Community Ambassador, Boog will meet and greet fans on opening day and at selected games throughout the spring training season, just as he does at the ballpark in Baltimore.”

A two-time World Series champion, in 1966 and 1970, and four-time All-Star, Boog Powell played 14 seasons with the Orioles. He was born in Lakeland and operated a marina in Key West before opening Boog’s BBQ at Camden Yards.
