A new master-planned community in Pasco County has gotten its first resident, and it’s not who you might expect.
TouchPoint Medical, a subsidiary of Concordville, Pa.-based TouchPoint Inc. that makes equipment carts and mounts for high-tech medical devices, broke ground Feb. 6 on what will be a $30 million, 142,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in The Preserve, a BRS Industries LLC development located in Odessa, just west of State Road 589. When built out, the community will boast more than 1,000 homes, plus a Publix Greenwise grocery store and dermatology clinic. TouchPoint, which plans to hire 116 people, will be the sole industrial resident.
“This is very important to all of us, and a great day for Pasco,” says Pasco County EDC President and CEO Bill Cronin, who spoke at the groundbreaking event. “It’s one of those milestones we talk about, and we’re going to be talking about this for a while.”
Less than a mile from the Suncoast Parkway and with easy access to Tampa International Airport, The Preserve site, Cronin adds, represents “a great foundation to do business — a wonderful location in the fastest-growing market in the Southeast.”
Cronin says TouchPoint Medical’s decision to consolidate its multistate business — it also has facilities in Connecticut, Atlanta and Oldsmar — strengthens Florida’s reputation as one of the leading states for medical device manufacturing.
“They’re going to have a ton of visitors coming in, and [those visitors] are going to see what TouchPoint Medical saw when they chose Pasco County,” Cronin says. “We’re proud of that, and we are going to do our best to make sure we continue to shine.”
