FORT MYERS — Motivated by a desire to help impoverished Hondurans “See the Difference” of better eyesight, Dr. Klaus Freeland of Snead Eye Group on Oct. 8 embarked on a week-long mission trip to perform otherwise unavailable ophthalmological care such as cataract, glaucoma and pterygium surgery to the residents of the remote community of Balfate Colon, Honduras. The closest town to the village is La Ceiba, about a one-hour drive.
The trip is in cooperation with Loma de Luz, a charitable outreach of The Cornerstone Foundation. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Freeland’s history of mission work goes back to his teens when mission trips included Mexico City with the organization Youth With A Mission.
Freeland is accompanied on this mission trip with his wife, Charlie, and sons, Christian (8) and Luke (6).
Snead Eye Group is one of largest ophthalmology practices in Southwest Florida with more than 30 staff members, four ophthalmologists and one optometrist at locations in Fort Myers and Naples.
