Tampa builds HQ credibility

Tampa civic and business leaders want the big catch in a corporate headquarters, the type of win that makes and competitors such as Atlanta and Charlotte weep.

While that remains a goal and possibility, the city can also celebrate two recent smaller headquarters triumphs, both from Illinois. The companies, Aurora, Ill.-based Velocity Resource Group and Chicago-based Fay Servicing, join USAA, BeniComp Insurance Co., TransferWise and Gateway One Lending and Finance in recently expanding or moving to Hillsborough County.

Velocity Resources, founded in 2001, has worked with more than 1,000 companies and provided staffing support for more than 50,000 assignments. The firm plans to create at least 50 jobs in Tampa. “Tampa offers us a much friendlier business climate than Chicago,” says John Fortino, Velocity Resources co-founder and senior managing partner, in a statement.
