Builder talks up fiscal responsibility in U.S. Senate race

Carlos Beruff, 58-year-old founder, owner and CEO of Medallion Homes, officially announced Monday his candidacy for the Republican Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by presidential candidate Marco Rubio.

For the past 32 years, Beruff has built Manatee County-based Medallion Homes Gulf Coast Inc. into one of the largest home builders in the region. Medallion has constructed more than 2,500 homes in Manatee, Sarasota and Lake counties.

In 2015, the company's revenues topped $83 million.
